Position Summary:
Assists the staff by providing accurate, timely medical order transcription, utilizing the computerized order entry system, acting as receptionist and caring for department office equipment and supplies as directed.

Position Expectations & Responsibilities:
Expected to have ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Expected to have basic mathematical skills. Expected to be proficient in all computer software utilized for order entry and patient care, including but not limited to Care Manager, STAR, and intranet and Internet applications. Expected to transcribe physician orders accurately and completely and in a timely manner using the computerized order entry system and unit specific forms. Expected to post diagnostic test results in the proper section of the patients' charts. Expected to prepare and review charts for completeness for admissions, discharges, transfers, expirations and procedures. Expected to maintain clerical, unit and dietary supplies per unit policy. Expected to demonstrate appropriate use and notification of needed maintenance on all equipment. Expected to attend and participate in at least 50% of department staff meetings as well as participate in hospital meetings, forums and seminars. Expected to demonstrate understanding and commitment to patient and co-worker confidentiality. Expected to respond to patient requests in a timely, professional, friendly manner. Expected to demonstrate a commitment to professional growth through attendance at educational opportunities. Expected to prioritize and organize tasks in a logical and efficient manner. Expected to maintain a calm and friendly attitude while performing multiple tasks. Expected to transmit all orders to Pharmacy and other departments per unit policy using the fax machine. Expected to maintain accurate, complete, legible records and logs as requested per unit. Expected to relay calls of a medical nature to the RN, convey messages accurately and promptly to the appropriate person. Expected to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Expected to write simple correspondence.
Minimum Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
OR
One to three months related experience and/or training AND Completion of Health Unit Coordinator training program.
Licensure/Regulation/Certification:
BLS certification from the American Heart Association Must have taken EKG class (for those employees in the Emergency Services Department)
