AFDC is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization whose ultimate goal is to see every deaf and hard of hearing child enjoy success in life through empowering families with resources, services and support.
We have succeeded in our mission when:
- Families are aware and willing to meet the unique linguistic needs of their deaf children
- Families are able to share their family life and culture with their deaf children
- Deaf children have a positive self-image and confidence in their abilities
- Deaf children posses the language abilities and family support to develop literacy skills on par with their hearing peers
Our approach is supportive, flexible and family oriented. Through our work with families we:
- Value the power a family possesses in assisting their deaf child to succeed
- Have high expectations for deaf children
- Strive for age appropriate language acquisition for deaf children
- Involve deaf adults in the lives of families we serve
- Seek out partnerships with foundations and organizations to build on existing resources
